The problem privacy creates
Once a chain link fence is slatted or taped, headlights no longer pass through it. A gate that was obvious at night becomes a dark wall, and a drive lane between two slatted runs loses its edges. Reflective tape puts the edges back.
Where it goes
- Gate leaves. A band across each leaf at headlight height, about 3 ft off the ground, and a vertical band at the latch edge so the opening reads as an opening.
- Drive lanes. A horizontal band along both sides of the lane, continuous from the entrance to the yard.
- Corners and end posts. A vertical band on the post side of the last panel, where a truck turning in clips the fence.
- Loading docks and dumpster enclosures. The same treatment, on the side the driver backs toward.
How much
Measure the bands you plan to run and add 10 percent for the ends and the overlaps at posts. The 7000 Series reflective tape weaves through the mesh exactly like privacy tape and ships by the roll with fasteners for the ends.
Install
Start at a post, weave the roll through the diamonds in a straight line, over and under, to the far post, then secure the ends with the fasteners. On a gate, keep the band clear of the hinge side so it does not bind. Check the bands with a flashlight at night from the driver's seat before calling it done.
